If I could have one superpower,
it would be to spread kindness.

Hey there! My name is Layna and I am Registered Nurse with a heart for women’s health, perinatal care, and community wellness. United Community Wellness came to life after seeing the need to provide quality healthcare that is person-centred, supportive, compassionate, accessible, and inclusive of all racial, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, size, defining experiences and identities. Everyone should have the right to safety, respect, autonomy, education, informed decision- making, and informed consent while receiving care.

& that's why we're here. I can't wait to work with you.

xx Layna

My Story

I’ve been a nurse since 2003, after graduating with Distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. But even before that, I was working in healthcare—as a Psychiatric Aide and Undergraduate Nurse—learning early on how much I loved supporting people through meaningful life moments.

For over 22 years, I’ve focused my nursing practice on caring for women, mothers, and babies through pregnancy, labour, birth, postpartum, and surgical recovery. It’s work I feel truly passionate about. Supporting families during such a powerful and personal time is something I consider both a privilege and an honour. Over the years, I’ve built a deep well of knowledge, skills, and experience that I now bring into a more holistic, community-based approach to care.

Like many in healthcare, I’m always learning. Most recently, I’ve been working as a Second Birth Attendant alongside an amazing team of Registered Midwives in Central Alberta. In 2024, I completed my Canadian Certification in Perinatal Mental Health (CC-PMH), and I’ll soon be certified in Holistic Nursing, Nurse Coaching, and Consultancy through the Canadian Institute of Integrative Nursing Development & Education.

This path—and the many learning opportunities along the way—led me to create United Community Wellness, a place to offer the kind of care that meets people where they’re at: whole-person, heart-centered, and grounded in both experience and compassion.

Outside of nursing, my biggest love is my family. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, and we have three amazing kids—our oldest is a young adult now, and the younger two are teens. Life at home is full and busy, but it’s also where I find the most joy and growth. I’ve lived in Alberta my whole life—raised on a farm in a small town, spent a few years in the city, and then happily returned to rural life after university. I’m a daughter, sister, auntie, niece, and friend—and those roles shape how I show up in the world, both personally and professionally.
